A light-hearted comedy, which deals with the very funny misfortunes of a famous television actress who seeks to "get away from it all" in a small New England town.

Audition information:
Fed up with the pressures and demands of her acting career, the famous Myra Marlowe leases a house in the tiny hamlet of Beaver Haven, and settles down to write her autobiography. She loves the solitude, but dealing with her nosy, omnipresent neighbors is a different matter.

In an attempt to shoo them away, and gain some privacy, Myra invents a mad, homicidal sister—who is kept locked in an upstairs room, but who occasionally escapes long enough to scare off uninvited visitors.

The ruse works well, at first, but complications result when the local handyman conceives an affection for "Sister Sadie", (really Myra in a fright wig), and some of the more officious ladies decide it is their Christian duty to save the poor demented Sadie's soul.

In desperation, Myra announces her imaginary sibling has suddenly gone off to Boston—which brings on the sheriff, and the suspicion of murder!

MYRA MARLOWE	female	The famous TV actress, she has reached her middle years with great grace and still exudes good looks, good health, and good will. Not a snob, but little tolerance or understanding of common folk.
TOM LAMONT	male	Myra's agent of many years. A handsome man graying at the temples, still carrying the torch for Myra.
REBA HARPER	female	Lead gossip, know-it-all and town busybody. There's no business, that's not her business.
CORA GUMP	female	Reba Harper's best friend and most dependable gossip and go-between. The busybodys busybody.
PINEY	male	A rugged, big man with stooped shoulders and a beard. Carries an axe. He chops wood and sells manure. Likes to trap skunks. Sweet on Sadie.
WILLA MAE WILCOX	female	A furtive, birdlike woman. Reba and Cora think she's a witch and mad as a hatter. After her husband died they found his picture full of pins and needles. Hates anyone who's a Pisces.
THE SHERIFF	male	No nonsense. Means to get to the bottom of things. May not be the sharpest knife in the drawer.
